Insurance Claims Data, Dow Jones Increases trigger 30 pts
The Dow Jones closed 30 points stronger, at the trading Wednesday (25/11/2009) local time, as the drop in unemployment claims and increased incentives home sales were reported recently. However, trading volume is still low.
As quoted by Reuters on Thursday (26/11/2009), economic data and including a weakening U.S. dollar triggered transactions in capital markets for some investors. Government of the United States (U.S.) said the number of claims for unemployment insurance decreased 35 thousand to 466 thousand in the last week. This figure is the lowest since September last year and better than economists’ expectations of 500 thousand.
While the average number of unemployment reached 10.2 percent in October and analysts predict, that number will continue to improve. Meanwhile, other economic data is the new home sales rose 6.2 percent to 430 thousand for the annual average. Again, these numbers are better than analysts predicted.
Positive sentiment brought the Dow Jones index gained 30.69 points, or 0.3 percent, to equal 10,464.4. Meanwhile, the S & P 500 rose 4.98 points, or 0.5 percent, to equal 1110.63 and the Nasdaq index rose 6.87 points, or 0.3 percent to the equivalent level of 2176.05.
